We’re notifying employers about Maine’s health cost relief program

Small Group | ME

We’ll send a direct mail letter to Small Group employers in October notifying them of the Maine Small Business Health Cost Relief program. The program provides small group health coverage premium reductions for 18 months, from November 1, 2021, through April 30, 2023. The monthly premium reduction for employers and their enrolled employees is currently:

  • Employee  =  $50
  • Two adults  = $100
  • One adult + children = $80
  • Two adults + children = $130

Adult and child plans provide the same premium reductions per plan, regardless of the number of children. A child is defined as a dependent up to age 26.

Employers will start seeing the credits applied to their November invoices.

The reduction must be split between the employer and each covered enrollee and family according to the employer’s contribution and the enrollee’s contribution to the premium. Employers may also choose to provide a greater share of this premium reduction with their employees and their families. The reduction will apply to any current and new participants in their health plan.

Future premium reductions may be adjusted during the program as available funding changes.

Employers are required to inform employees about this benefit by providing them with a copy of a direct mail letter and by posting the letter where they post required employment notices, such as OSHA and workers’ compensation posters.
