Enhancing Member Experience with Anthem's Personalized ID Card Delivery

Large Group, Small Group, Individual | CO, CT, IN, KY, ME, MO, NH, NV, VA, WI, CA, GA

Anthem delivers member ID cards based on each member’s preference. They can choose between digital-only experience or receiving a physical ID card by mail. This member-driven approach has been in place throughout 2025.

“Standard ID Cards” does not mean every member receives a printed card; rather, each member receives their card in the format they previously selected. This ensures faster, more secure, and more sustainable delivery, while maintaining consistency across ID cards, benefit updates, EOBs, and other communications.

What your clients and their employees need to know:

  • Digital delivery is consent-based. Many members have already opted into digital communications through enrollment, digital tools, service interactions, or programs such as Employee Navigator or Paperless Auto Convert — even if they don’t recall when.
  • Group participation does not override member choice. Whether a group participates in a digital-first program or opts out, delivery still follows each member’s individual preference. Groups that opt out should be aware that many employees may continue to receive digital ID cards due to prior consent.
  • Members stay in control. They can change their preference or request a one-time mailed card at any time, ensuring members remain in control of their experience.

Please continue to remind clients that ID cards are always available digitally, regardless of delivery preference, and are mailed only based on each member’s previously selected preference — digital-only or physical delivery. We also recommend that clients encourage their employees to review and update their preferences in the member portal as needed.
