Large Group, Small Group, National | CO, CT, IN, KY, ME, MO, NH, NV, OH, VA, WI, GA

Tax season is here. Please remind your clients of the following dates, forms, requirements, and deadlines to ensure they have everything they need for a seamless filing.

Fully insured and Administrative Services Only (ASO) groups with 50 or more full-time employees are considered Applicable Large Employers (ALEs) by the IRS. They are required to file tax form 1095-C along with tax form 1094-C. Anthem does not file these forms for fully insured Large Applicable Employers (ALE).

IRS reporting is going digital

Beginning in the 2025 filing year, Anthem will place tax form 1095-B on anthem.com and the SydneySM Health app. Members who signed up to receive their documents digitally will get a secure email telling them their tax documents are ready.

Anthem will also provide Minimum Essential Coverage (MEC) proof of coverage to the following states:

  • District of Columbia on March 31, 2025.
  • New Jersey on March 31, 2025.
  • California on March 31, 2025.
  • Massachusetts 1099-HC on January 31, 2025.
  • Rhode Island employers will need to file proof of coverage for associates that live in the state.

Anthem does other mailings throughout the year for IRS reporting:

  • Social Security number collection: In early spring (March/April), Anthem will send letters to members to solicit their Social Security number if we don’t have it on file.
  • Social Security number and reconciliation: In late spring (April/May), Anthem will send letters to members if their names, birthdates, Social Security number or tax identification number don’t match what is on the IRS taxpayer database.

Reminders for Multiple Employer Welfare Arrangement (MEWA) and Small Group Anthem Balance Funding (ABF):

  • Anthem will create tax forms 1095-B and 1094-B forms for Small Group Multiple Employer Welfare Arrangement (MEWA) and Small Group Anthem Balance Funding (ABF) groups.
  • These forms will be posted to the EmployerAccess Portal (EAP) in early February.
  • Tax forms 1095-B for California members will be posted to EAP mid-January in time for the January 31st member mailing deadline.

The IRS requires electronic filing for:

  • Employers who file the forms W-2, 1099, 1094B/1094C, 1095-B/1095C, 5330, and 5500 and if they collectively come to ten or more. You can find more detailed information on electronic filing here.
