Anthem will notify Individual subscribers about a 2027 rate change filing

Individual | ME

Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Maine recently filed a request with the Maine Bureau of Insurance (Bureau) to approve rate changes for our Individual health plans, effective January 1, 2027. The average proposed rate change is 18%, but Individual plan changes range from 9% to 26% depending on members’ age, residence location, and type of plan.

We’ll mail this notice of rate filing letter to members in July. It includes information about why rates are changing and how they can provide feedback directly to the Bureau.

For members currently enrolled in an on-Exchange PPO plan, we will send the on-Exchange PPO notice of rate filing letter in July. The letter outlines the proposed 2027 rate change and explains that we will no longer offer PPO plans on the Exchange for plan year 2027. Affected members will be transitioned to a comparable HMO plan. The letter also provides the rationale for this change: managing rising medical costs and keeping premiums as affordable as possible. The replacement HMO plan covers most of the same services and offers broad network access across Maine and New England and includes out-of-network coverage for urgent and emergency services, as well as any pre-approved scheduled services.

The notice refers members to anthem.com/ms/maineratefiling/home.html for 2027 plan and proposed rate details.

Once the Bureau has completed its review and the 2027 rates are final, we’ll notify members about the approved changes before their next renewal.
