Update on Anthem’s agreement with Scripps Health

Large Group, Small Group | CA

Anthem Blue Cross (Anthem) is currently in negotiations with Scripps Health to keep their providers and facilities in Anthem plan networks. Scripps’ existing contract with Anthem is scheduled to terminate October 1, 2026, if an agreement is not reached.

Important: Scripps remains in-network today and there is no immediate change for members. While we continue our work to reach an agreement, nothing will change with any care received from Scripps hospitals, physicians, and outpatient services. We recognize this type of update can raise questions for your clients, and we’re committed to sharing clear, timely information as discussions continue.

We are still working to reach an agreement with Scripps by September 30, 2026, and we are optimistic. However, if an agreement is not reached, Scripps’ hospitals, medical groups, and facilities will no longer be in Anthem's network beginning Thursday, October 1, 2026. Our priority is to reach an agreement that preserves access to high-quality care while supporting affordability for employers and employees.

On Tuesday, August 2, we will send letters to members who are affected by a potential physician termination. We will let them know Scripps facilities will not be in their plans' networks starting October 1, 2026, unless we reach a new agreement. We will include frequently asked questions (FAQ) that cover topics such as continuation of care.

In the meantime, we will continue to work with Scripps and will share updates as they become available. You can also visit anthem.com/ca/scrippshealth for the latest information.
