BioPlus Specialty Pharmacy migration starts January 1, 2024

CarelonRx Members currently taking a specialty medication will transition to BioPlus Specialty Pharmacy, a Carelon company, starting January 1, 2024. BioPlus has 30 years of high-touch specialty pharmacy experience, advanced digital tools, and a fast and easy process for members and providers.

The migration for most members will take place in four waves:

  • 1/1/24: Individual/exchange members in all states
  • 3/1/24: Members whose employer is based in Georgia
  • 4/1/24: Members whose employer is based in WI, ME, CO, NV, CT, NH, MO, VA, and CA
  • 6/1/24: Members whose employer is based in IN, KY, OH, and NY

We’ll send you an email reminder before the migration to confirm the timeline for members in your state. It will include a link to a flyer that can help members understand the change.

Member notification

Affected members will receive a letter 30 to 90 days before migration explaining the transition. Most states require a 30-day notification. Maine requires 60 days. Nevada requires 90. To avoid confusion, letters will only be sent to members currently taking a specialty medication.

After the letters are sent and before migration to BioPlus, we will call every affected member to collect information and answer questions. Members don’t need to do anything for the migration, other than speak with BioPlus when they call. We will work with providers on any required refills or prior approval.

This FAQ about the BioPlus migration (PDF) can help answer questions, and this sample member letter (PDF) can help you understand what members will receive.
