Empire is becoming Anthem

We’re happy to remind you that on January 1, 2024, the Empire BlueCross BlueShield and Empire BlueCross names will transition to Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield and Anthem Blue Cross.

Please be assured that this name transition will not impact plans, pricing, networks, coverage, level of support, or service.

As we begin the transition period, here are guidelines for using the Empire and Anthem names as we approach the effective date:

  • Materials in the market – For a period of time, you, your clients, and members will see both Empire and Anthem brands in the market. Follow these guidelines for choosing the right brand:
    • Existing clients – When communicating with these clients, use the Empire name until January 1, 2024. When renewing these clients for 2024, use Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield or Anthem Blue Cross.
    • Prospects or new clients – For those with effective dates of January 1, 2024, or after, use Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield or Anthem Blue Cross.
    • Broker Hub – We’ve added a new resource filter to make it easy to find the Empire or Anthem-branded materials you need.

We’ll also begin communicating with members and the public:

  • In September, members will receive an email (upstate / downstate) with details about the name transition and what they can expect. We will continue to share information and updates with them throughout the year including messaging on Explanation of Benefits and our website. Members will also receive new Anthem-branded ID cards when their policy renews for 2024.
  • On January 1, 2024, members will be automatically redirected from empireblue.com to anthembluecross.com. Based on their health plan branding, they can also visit the following sites for information:
  • On September 18, 2023, we will launch an omni-channel campaign, alerting members, and consumers of our name transition. New Yorkers may begin to see the Anthem name and logo throughout their communities and in their homes on billboards, outdoor advertising, and on social media. Watch this short video (upstate / downstate) which will appear on numerous media channels.

While our official launch isn’t until January 1, 2024, we will continue to share news and updates with you in advance to help you prepare. To learn more, please visit anthembluecross.com or contact your account representative.
