The Empire name is transitioning to Anthem
Dear Valued Partner,
I am very excited to share the news that on January 1, 2024, Empire BlueCross BlueShield and Empire BlueCross will become Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield and Anthem Blue Cross, respectively.
This name brings together everything that the well-respected, industry-leading Anthem brand has to offer with the strength and value of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield brand that generations of New Yorkers have come to know and trust.
Please be assured there will be no impact to your plans, pricing, networks, coverage, or level of support or service due to this transition.
In addition, you will begin to see a fresh, updated Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield/Anthem Blue Cross logo that aligns to our broad portfolio of products and services, signaling a new chapter that honors the strength of our existing brand.
Why is Empire becoming Anthem?
You may know, Empire has been operating as an Anthem company since 2006. We are proud to say we are a part of something bigger, as the Anthem brand has a strong footprint that resonates across the country. This will lead the way for us to move into a broader vision of what healthcare means, tackling all aspects of health by combining our parent company’s national capabilities, affiliates, and resources with our local commitment and expertise to improve the whole health of all New Yorkers.

Here in New York, the heart of what we do is to provide access to healthcare through our best-in-class networks. That will never change. Our long history of collaborative partnerships ensures New Yorkers have access to diverse networks of local health professionals and the highest-quality care, offering greater confidence, reduced costs of care, and improved health outcomes. This is why our transition will be seamless and simple, ensuring that our members can continue to use the same doctors and hospitals they use today.
We will remain a part of the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association that provides 1 in 3 Americans access to our quality networks both here at home and while traveling, with the power of our international BlueCard® network.
