StanCorp Financial Group, Inc. (The Standard) acquired our parent company’s life and disability business on April 1, 2024. The Standard purchased the existing group policies of Anthem Blue Cross Life and Health Insurance Company along with Anthem Life Insurance Company (Anthem Life). StanCorp Financial Group, Inc. is now the owner of Anthem Life.
In conjunction with the agreement between our parent company and The Standard, Anthem Life will reissue groups currently on Anthem Blue Cross Life and Health Insurance Company policies and certificates to Anthem Life policies and certificates, effective June 1, 2024. Your clients with Anthem Blue Cross life and disability coverage will receive a letter explaining this change in the next few days.
There is no current plan to begin reissuing groups on The Standard’s policies.
Because it’s not possible to reissue all groups’ policies and certificates by June 1, Anthem Life will mail letters to groups to explain the changes they’ll see:
- Groups with life and disability coverage will receive this letter.
- Groups with ASO short-term disability or FML Administration will receive this letter.
- Members with life portability coverage will receive this letter.
Each group’s life and disability benefits, terms and provisions, premium rates, claims process, claims team, and service contacts are not changing. There will be no interruption in benefits.
Any other Anthem benefit plans — such as medical, dental, vision, accident, critical illness, or hospital indemnity plans — are not affected.
