Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield’s parent company announced the closing of its acquisition of Indiana University Health Plans (IU Health Plans), a managed care organization created by Indiana University Health.
IU Health Plans is an established managed care plan known for its local brand awareness, community involvement, high-touch customer service, and extensive product offerings. It’s continued to earn high-quality scores in its operating region, and it is committed to community health, well-being and high-quality care for each of its members.
The acquisition of IU Health Plans supports Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield parent company’s whole-health strategy and will continue to support members, families, and communities across the entire care journey – connecting them to the care, support, and resources they need to lead healthier lives.
IU Health Plans offers Medicare Advantage plans in 36 counties with 19,000 members, and 9,600 members in Fully Insured commercial employer plans.
If you currently have IU Health clients, here’s what you need to know:
- IU Health Plans and Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield will work closely with you through the transition and ensure members have continued access to high-quality healthcare.
- There will be no impact to IU Health Plans members’ benefits or coverage in 2025 as a result of this transition.
- For renewing IU Health Plans, you can continue to work with your current IU Health Plans account team.
- Fully Insured: Commissions on renewals of Fully Insured groups will be paid based on the Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield commission schedules.
- Medicare Advantage: There will be no change to commissions paid on Medicare Advantage business as a result of this transition.
- For calendar year 2025, your current appointment with IUHP is all you require. However, to market and sell 2026 Medicare Advantage plans, you will need to be appointed with Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield.
